If it’s not a specific suggestion, problem, usability issue or comment. Then it must be a “wish-I-had” so post it in this thread and we’ve got all the angles covered!

The firefox looks great and I’m sure many people will start using it.

    Some modifications will improve it:
    1. When you start up firefox the Zoep button is green while I am still not logged in. It should be red when not logged in. It should turn green when logged in.
    2. Currently there is no status option. Many people find the status button usefull, especially the status changing to “away” automatically after not using the computer for 10 minutes. The phone logo in the green button can be used for the status.
    3. There really should be an invite button as not many people have Zoep yet. Even more interesting would be “a send to all my Skype contacts an Zoep invitation”.
    4. Let Zoep send invitation to contactlist of Thunderbird adresslist. Of course user should be able to scroll to list before sending to cancel some invitations.
    5. Zoep is IN the browser. Therefore an more integrated service in the browser would be great. For example an “Zoep this page” button. One click of the button you can send your current webpage to a Zoep contact.
    6. I am sure video will be added later on.

    Good luck to Zoep!

I love wish lists so here is mine.
Extend the User Profile to include more information about the user such as interests, occupation, hobbies etc, and perhaps add a search by interest feature.

The ability to interact with other communication devices such as Google Talk, AIM etc.

Allow users to purchase credits for other users. This may help college students etc. An example is for a parent to buy the credits for their children to stay in touch.

Ken, you can IM out to any other jabber network that has an open gateway e.g. Google Talk just add your Gtalk name to your contacts!

btw your jabber name (if entered on Google Talk) will be [email protected]

    @ Harm
Great ideas, the roadmap published tomorrow will show the way forward, sending files, links etc.. are all natural progressions (i.e. Zope it)

The colour of the button when not signed in is an interesting point, as red could be a negative colour for sign in.

We’ve mimicked a phone function where green buttons are start-actions and red-buttons are end-actions. Notice the green button says Zoep before you sign in then it changes to a phone when you are signed in to show you that Zoep is ready and active.

The status thing (aka presence) is a deliberate attempt to follow-the-crowd because we think that other voip software has got it totally wrong, we want the extension to act intuitively for our user like a phone does, not like software does.

We asked our selves the question “who really wants the hassle of having to keep changing the software setting to show if they are about to walk away form the computer to put-the-kettle-on “ So we just let the phone ring, if your signed in your phones on if your signed out your phones off that’s how it works and the other people you are linked up with in your contacts can tell if your phone is on or off, simple. If it then rings while your away from you computer you just decide if you want to run back and answer it (sounds like how a phone works eh?)

It’s a little different for IM, we don’t want to continue assuming just because your phone is on you are free to chat on IM so we are working on a slightly different system for this (to be announced in the roadmap)

    What about a LINUX version???

  6. Ian Hayward Says:

Linux version is on the radar, it’s all down to doing a new XPCOM wapper for the extension, I’m not sure on timescales we’ll keep you posted.

    * implement zoep/sip protocol handlers.
Click on link zoep:username{@server} triggers call to the user (if caller is not logged in, then log in happens first). For PSTN calls the link would be something like sip:+372111222
I think can be made entirely within Javascript, no support from engine needed…

    * while on a webpage, user could see list of zoepers who are on the same page.
IMO can be implemented also without special support from the site (i.e. no changes in HTML needed). And of course user could call/chat with other visitors of the page. Requires some special server that tracks “locations” of users. User shall be able to disable the feature or remain anonymous (use nikcname).

  8. indrek Says:

Another way how to make calling-out simple:

if webpage contains a phone number and I select it, right click menu could offer choice “Call the number”. No idea, is this possible through Javascript…

  9. Barthel Daniel Says:

An really very nice Extension, i like her alot.
But unfortunatly i miss an really important funtion, in this version, it only supports yabber, no other client, not even gtalk is supported.
It would be realy nice, if GTalk, MSN and Yahoo, could be also reached on chat with this tool!

  10. Ian Hayward Says:

    @ Barthel

Gtalk and Zoep can talk together using IM try it!
(your Zoep IM name is [email protected])
